Please join us for a free yoga flow class to raise money for yogaHOPE, a nonprofit which assists women in recovery, and abused and disenfranchised women to empower themselves through the  practice of yoga.  YogaHope also provides scholarships for women to become yoga teachers.

We will host a trunk show by “Lululemon” presenting  great quality yoga clothes with creative designs on breathable fabric.

You can purchase raffle tickets (4 for $10) from now until 3/6 at the studio to win a Studio inspired Basket full of fabulous gifts, gift certificates for private classes, Pilates & yoga dvd's, music cd’s, exercise equipment & and more  surprises!!

The group will go through a 7-day cleanse based on the best-selling book, "The Ultrasimple Diet" by Dr. Mark Hyman. You can purchase this at Amazon.com at a very low price. It is also available in most book stores. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the time of the first class.

Proper breathing revitalizes your body’s interior and exterior structure and keeps your body aging gracefully. Learn to use your breathing to free your torso and spine from the inside out. Using different sized balls, learn to build strong abs and lungs while supporting a strong spine. Discover how to keep your upper back properly aligned with your head and shoulders. Learn how to decompress the upper back to create optimal intra-vertebral space, preventing and correcting any disc compression. Learn how to create balance between the front and back of the upper back working both the front and back of the neck. Find out how to balance both sides of the body for proper spinal posture.  Learn to restore individual abdominal muscle function and how to strengthen the abdomen in a way that supports a healthy back.

Also…your feet support your whole body weight and ground your posture. When you rebuild your foot function, you will stand up taller and release pressure from your back. Learn how to restore healthy foot function and how it relates to a healthy spine.

Let us Introduce to you the five basic principles of Pilates to help enhance awareness of your breathing and postural alignment. You will learn the initial Essential Mat repertoire, which is taught in layer one. Modifications are given if needed to promote safety, success and to prevent injuries from occurring. Receive personal attention and gain the skills and confidence to move into a general Pilates 1 class.

Tai chi, which originated in China as a martial art, is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Tai chi is sometimes referred to as "moving meditation"—practitioners move their bodies slowly, gently, and with awareness, while breathing deeply. Tai chi’s roots is in martial arts and the moves with wonderful names like "part the horses mane" are at the heart of attack and defense. Either way, the slow and fluid movements of tai chi require concentration, control, co-ordination and balance. This combination of mental and physical activity works to harmonize the mind, body and spirit and promotes feelings of wellbeing. This makes tai chi an excellent choice for people who are bored by the repetitive nature of many other exercise systems. Tai chi exercises make an ideal complement to other sports such as golf, or other martial arts training as a warm up or warm down technique.

 

Stability Chair Small Group Classes forming Now!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The Pilates Studio is always inspired to be innovative for our clients in our fitness programming.  With that in mind, this Fall we are introducing Pilates Stability Chair Small Group classes (limit of 6 in each class).  The Stott Stability Chair is a complete redesign of Joseph Pilate’s original, and vastly increases the number of exercise options to students in one session such as, many of the exercise possibilities of the Cadillac, Reformer and Ladder Barrel.  The Chair sequences begin with a mat repertoire warm up based on level and then onto the equipment.  The choreography consists of arm work, leg work,  foot work, abdominal strengthening, and rotation.  Standing, prone, supine, kneeling and lateral exercises are possible, along with rotational work.  The Chair’s shape reinforces upright alignment when seated, encouraging increase targeting of core muscles.  The teacher customizes the exercise experience to fit the needs of the small group class.  Cues are given for your specific body and the teacher provides detailed, hands-on instruction to help you achieve the best possible results.  The Stability Chair’s versatility is unique in that it can be one of the most difficult and challenging pieces of equipment you will encounter, while also easily modifiable and adaptable to people with special physical conditions and the underconditioned.  Experience a great workout as you focus on alignment, flexibility in motion, and balanced muscular development.  We are offering beginner, intermediate, advanced and athletic conditioning.     So beat boredom and avoid plateaus.  Change it up with Stability Chair Classes at the Pilates Studio!

 Pink Ribbon Program:                                                               This is a beginners’ Pilates mat & reformer training offered to breast cancer survivors.  During the six week you will learn specific exercises to increase your shoulder joint mobility that will eliminate tightness and discomfort on the affected shoulder.
