Shelia is the founder of the studio and is originally from Virginia where she graduated from Norfolk State University with a BS in Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy. She was employed as a Kinesiotherapist for thirteen years with the Veteran Administration Hospital. She relocated to Massachusetts in 1998 and attended the Massage Institute of New England. In 1999, she became a National Certified Licensed Massage Therapist. Shelia has studied Stott Pilates since 1998 and became a fully certified Stott Pilates Instructor (Mat / full equipment trained).

She maintains her AFFA group fitness instructor and ACE personal training certifications. Her passion for Joseph Pilates methods of exercise, yoga and
Gyrotonic /Gyrokinesis has allowed her to continue one of her favorite hobbies which is running marathons/10K/5K races with speed, strength and without injuries.

Shelia has trained and studied with many renowned yoga instructors including Beryl Bender Birch; John Friend; Rodney Yee; Baron Baptiste and Sean Corne. She continues her Ashtanga yoga teacher training with Beryl Bender Birch whom she adores and admires. Shelia expresses through her teaching that yoga is a journey that must be continuously practiced. She is able to gain mental and physical strength through her yoga practice which helps her to endure whatever
obstacles life may bring.

In 2003, she began her Gyrokinesis/Gyrotonic training with master trainers Kathy VanPatton and Sebastian Plettenberg. During 2004, she completed level one teacher training and became a certified Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis trainer. Through her knowledge and skills, she helps her clients achieve their optimum potential for a healthy mind, body and spirit. She is constantly motivated by her client’s extreme commitment to their exercise practice, whether it is Pilates, yoga or Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis. These exercises bring together balance and harmony to one’s life.

Shelia believes in the importance of mind, body and spirit exercises and that life is enriched and invigorating when the body is balanced.

 

Diane is a fully certified Stott Pilates instructor. She is certified in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels.

Diane has been a Pilates student since January of 2000 and quickly became enamored with Pilates and propelled herself through the rigorous training necessary to become fully certified in November of 2006. Diane received her training at The Studio in Hamilton, MA and has been teaching to an avid audience at The Pilates Studio for the past 4 years. Diane has become one of our most respected instructors, teaching Pilates with a focus on individual attention and bringing mind-body awareness into building core strength. Diane loves sharing the art of Pilates with others as a way to reach their physical goals. Her gentle hand and vast knowledge of Pilates has helped her develop into a loyal and rapidly growing group of followers.

Diane has recently furthered her training by becoming Yamuna Body Rolling certified. YBR is a natural complement to both Yoga & Pilates. Their goals are the same - to free the body of restrictions, eliminate stress and tension; creating a calm and balanced you. YBR can be integrated into any Yoga or Pilates class, helping to improve your practice and prevent injury.


Mary is certified by the National Yoga Alliance as a Hatha yoga Instructor, influenced by the Anusara style of John Friend, having studied with Todd Norian, and Yin Yoga as practiced by Paul Grilley and Jill Satersfield. She has practiced yoga since 1985 and is a second degree Reiki practitioner. Mary is also a public school teacher in Milton and has worked extensively with children with special needs.

In conducting her Gentle Yoga classes, which are always respectful of students’ individual abilities and needs, Mary draws inspiration form both Yogic and Buddist texts, such as the Yoga Sutras and the writings of the Dalai Lama, Pema Chodrin and Thich Nhat Hanh and sometimes Jerry Seinfeld, but mostly from her students.



Linda is a Registered Nurse, a Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, a Certified Ear Coning Therapist, a Kids Yoga Instructor and Reiki Master.

She has been practicing Yoga since 1972. Linda lives in Braintree with her husband John and their poodle, Cleo. She has three daughters: Laurie, who lives in Bridgewater, MA, Meghan, who is a graduate student and living in Northampton, MA, and Leah, who is attending Law School in Virginia. She also has two granddaughters, Hannah who is 4 years old and Sarah who is three.


Emily is a body worker, dancer, choreographer and technique instructor. Her knowledge and practice of modern release technique shaping her organic approach to the body.

“Release” technique is an athletic movement style that explores gravity, weight sharing, alignment versus off-center and breath. She incorporates these fundamentals into her bodywork, energetically moving the body with intention and flow.

Emily is certified in Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis from San Francisco Gyrotonic and Pilates from Symmetry of Movement. She earned her BFA in Dance from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has danced with companies in New York City, San Francisco, Hawaii and Boston.

The fusion of Gyrotonic, Pilates and Dance lend to Emily’s unique approach to her bodywork and dance style. Her focus is to increase range of motion, strength, spatial awareness and improve one’s performance in other athletics and daily living.


Jessica Zimmerman

 

          Affectionately known at the Studio as J.Z., Jessica Zimmerman is a Stott Pilates Certified instructor.  She has also completed 200 hours of teacher training in Flow Yoga and is certified by the National Yoga Alliance. In October 2009, she was chosen as an ambassador for LuluLemon Athletica Dedham, MA.

  For 12 years, she worked a demanding job in the car industry.  After getting married in May of 2006, she decided that working 12 hour work days and 6 day work weeks, was not how she wanted to live her life.  So, she quit her job to teach Pilates.

          Working those long grueling hours, the one thing she looked forward to where Pilates sessions at The Pilates Studio.  She loved how she could finally connect her mind to her body.  All of the craziness in her life stopped while practicing Pilates.  Now, she looks forward to sharing that with others through her teaching.

          Since quitting her full time job, Jessica has become quite the fitness enthusiast, adding triathlete and marathoner to her list.  In 2008 she completed two sprint triathlons.  In December 2008 she completed her first marathon in West Palm Beach Florida, and ran her first, but certainly not the last, Boston marathon in April of 2009. 

          Jessica's teaching focuses on alignment, strengthening and bringing a new awareness to your body.  She looks forward to sharing her passion and helping everyone she can reach their full fitness potential.

 

 

 

Kathy is Stott Pilates trained and fully certified in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels. She is also trained in Advanced Mat, Advanced Reformer, and Advanced Cadillac, Chair and Barrels. She has experience with Pilates Dynamic Conditioning - BOSU, Ultimate Back Care, Flexxband Body Sculpting, Pilates on a Roll, Toning Balls and Prenatal/Postnatal Exercise Programs.

Kathy believes in Pilates as an exercise practice that demands concentration, focus, and shows excellent results. Kathy has been teaching Pilates in the Boston area since 2002.

Kathy has been trained by Master Trainers Kathy Van Patten and Sebastian Plettenberg for GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC®. She was personally certified by Juliu Horvath in both GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC®. Kathy has been teaching GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® in the Boston area since 2004.

In 2006, Kathy joined The Pilates Studio in Canton, and finds Pilates to be extremely beneficial, both physically and mentally, for her clients.

 

 

Libby Lowe is a 500 hour Kripalu certified yoga Instructor. She has been practicing yoga for over thirteen years in the Invengar, Bikram, Ashtanga, and the Viniyoga traditions. Libby also taught aerobics and fitness for over 15 years, including programs for seniors and pre and post natal clients.

She is a painter and jewelry designer having studied at the Rhode Island School of Design.

In her classes, Libby will focus on alignment as well as the coordination of breath and movement to cultivate internal awareness and calm the mind.

Libby is also interested in introducing students with physical challenges to yoga in a practice that will work on flexibility and strength as well as breathing techniques for stress reduction.

She finds practicing yoga on and off the mat helps to a deeper sense of compassion towards oneself and others.
