Charity Fundraising Event “Yoga Hope” Saturday, March 22, 12:30-1:45pm The Pilates Studio team recognizes the gift of giving. Each year we like to give to our local charity in attempt to raise our awareness and support the cause in which we chose to. In the past years we supported “Relay for Life” to raise awareness and money for Cancer research. February 2007 we supported “Supply Sacks”, not for profit organization that collected items for DSS children who were abruptly taken from their home and relocated into foster care. This year we would like to recognized and raise awareness and money for the non-profit organization, “YogaHope”. This group was created by Sue Johnson with the hope to bring yoga to women in “Boston Shelters suffering from abuse, homelessness, and addictions.” The money we raise will help support over 450 women in six Boston area shelters so they may “receive incentives such as weekly classes, yoga clothes, meditative retreats and scholarships to become teachers themselves”. We are all aware of the need filled by these shelters to receive without judgment those in need may find some comfort and safety during their life’s turmoil. We are blessed to understand the importance of body mind and spirit connection and learned that the ancient practice of yoga allows you to quiet your mind and body even during your chaotic daily life. We would like to help other’s experience this same bliss and know they too can survive and stay strong and alive during “life’s stormy weather”.
Please come and join us on Saturday, March 22, at 12:30pm for our YogaHope special class. A raffle has been organized with lots of wonderful gifts to give away. This class is designed for all levels. I personally will dedicate this yoga practice to my childhood acquaintance, Wanda Cotton who tragically lost her life to domestic violence December 2007.

Wow! The Gyrotonic Art of Exercising continues to amaze us as well as our clients. Read on:
Subject: Gyrotonics
Dear Dr. Rainville.
My name is Sheila K. Ceasar, an employee ofNEBH and a patient of the Spine Center, where Dr Christin Jouve is my Physiatrist. I have Spinal Stenosis L5-SlISpondylolisthosis. A combination of physical therapy, at the Dedham Health & Athletic Complex, injections and weight loss has helped. Just before Thanksgiving I started to have pain again and received another injection (was in tears when I came in to see Dr. Jouve). I did receive some relief. However, after the first week in January, I started to feel some pain again (I'd say pain scale 5), when it kicked in. The thought of having another injection was making me anxious because it seems the need was becoming more frequent.
I have read articles where you are quoted regarding the benefits of therapy versus a rush to surgery. So in keeping with your statements, I felt I needed to find another alternative for pain relief. My reason for contacting you is to share information about the Gyrotonic Expansion System. For approximately six weeks, I have been going to a Pilates studio to work out on the Gyrotonic Cobra tower. This experience has been amazing for my leg/back pain. I am experiencing more energy and decreasing occurrences of leglback pain. I am now standing for longer periods oftime without any pain. Now, ifI had to answer the "pain scale" question, I could say a whisper above zero, when and if it occurs. In addition, I feel "expanded" for lack of a better description.
"The Gyrotonic Expansion System is an exercise modality that guides users to simultaneously stretch and strengthen muscles and tendons while also articulating and mobilizing the joints" (as stated on the website: www.gyrotonic.com). Also, breathing coordination is part of the activity.
My instructor, Mary, is aware that I work at the Baptist. When I mentioned sending this email, she agreed and invites the Spine Center to consider a visit to the Shelia Donavan Pilates Studio in Canton, MA, for a demonstration.
Sincerely,
Sheila k. Caesar
